Thesis Title: "Pledges of Allegiance: State Formation in Mississippi Between Slavery and Redemption"
About
I am a historian of the United States who is particularly interested in political culture over the long nineteenth century, the transition from subjecthood to citizenship in the Revolution and early national periods, the history of the state and the transition from slavery to emancipation in the Atlantic World.
I am currently revising several articles for publication. I am also starting on two studies: one a study of deference in American politics from the Revolution to the early republican era, and the other a study of the history of the state in the Black Atlantic over the course of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.
